 David Berry created New Versions

Born 1950, in Ohio. Came to California in 1971 to study film at Cal Arts. Worked for Industrial Light & Magic 1976-1985. Won Academy Award® for Visual Effects for Cocoon 1985. What eventually became New Versions was started in 1986. Also produced, The Island in Time.

"With New Versions, there was no script. I just shot whatever I thought might be interesting, and the pieces sort of evolved. Much of the work can be likened to a free form video sketch book. I am excited that my work can now be experienced by the public at large. New Versions was a collaborative effort between myself, the musicians, and Belen Garcia-Alvarado. Belen, a co-founder of Zakros InterArts/New Music Theater in San Francisco, worked very closely with me to focus my original, long form ideas into short poetic, narrative statements. She also produced the first public showing of some of the pieces."
